Sister Sharon Cannon

Sis. Cannon is a woman who has been reconciled to God by her Savior Jesus the Christ and has been made the righteousness of God through Him (cf. Philippians 3:8-10; 2 Corinthians 5:20-21). She also loves God and is very grateful that a Holy God looked beyond her faults and saw, not only her needs, but also the needs of the entire human race (cf. St. John 3:16-17; Romans 5:8). She is a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, where her Husband, Reverend Nathaniel T. Cannon, Jr., is the Pastor.

Sis. Cannon has worked in many capacities within and without the walls of the church. She has over 25 years of experience in public service and is currently employed as a community liaison with the Austin Police Departments Office of Community Liaison. In her position, she works with the areas of Central east and Southeast Austin through education and prevention services. She also assists in bridging the gap between law enforcement and the African American communities throughout the city and works citywide, as needed, with other Agencies, City Departments, neighborhoods, businesses, churches and schools to ensure the lines of communication are constantly open. Sharon is also the Faith Community liaison and works with congregations and groups from across the City to address the needs of our population, such as the youth, the elderly and those with mental health concerns.

She is a humble and down-to-earth soul and considers herself, first, a “Child of God”; she realizes that there is no greater reward than being in the service of the Lord and working in every capacity “…as unto Christ.” (cf. Ephesians 6:5-6). Her favorite scripture is Psalm 34, especially vss. 1-3 which states, “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O’ magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.”
